The ZZ454/440 offers tremendous value in a big-block crate engine. Based on the proven 454 HO with its Gen VI 454 block, the addition of GM Performance Parts Signature series oval port aluminum heads reduce weight and increase horsepower to 440, up from the 454 HO’s 425.

The ZZ454 shares its forged crankshaft and connecting rods with GMPP’s 454 HO and the family of famous 502 crate engines, so you know it’s strong. Forged pistons fill the block, and a hydraulic roller camshaft times the valves. Complete with dual plane intake manifold, water pump, torsional damper and automatic transmission flexplate, the ZZ454 is one value packed big-block crate engine.

With its throttle responsive 9.6 to 1 compression ratio, the pump gas friendly ZZ454 is a great choice for muscle cars, bracket racers and off-road truckers. Just add your 850 CFM carb, GM HEI distributor, and 2 1/4" primary headers and you’re ready to rip.

The ZZ454/440 in intended for use in 1978 and earlier preemission street vehicles and any year off-road vehicles.

This engine is very flexible and gives what you ask from it. Mine pulls hard through all 4 gears in my '66 Elco. It has 2" primary headers, an Air-Gap intake, an 850 Annular Demon, otherwise stone stock. It is in our only family car, and besides hauling ass it also goes to the store, gets me to law school on a daily basis in heavy traffic, and performs all family chores with never a complaint. This is a fine engine that is not hard to tune and can actually give decent fuel mileage while still being able to wrap a tach needle with the best of 'em.

I've had this engine for 1 1/2 years, it's a bear. Great engine. I'm going to fuel inject it next. It's in a 68 Chevelle original 396 car. The best bolt-in fun.

A year after installing a ZZ454 in a 1972 C10 truck I'm still in awe of it's performance. I think that GM underrates it's power, a lot... This thing spins the tires in 2nd at 4900rpms doing 75 mph. It's an animal, all that and I'm getting 12mpg with a heavy foot, 17mpg Miami to Orlando cruising...
